You just know Blossom wears Missoni.
Quirky is the name of the game at Missoni Resort, a game that they have been playing since their founding in in 1953. The founders’ daughter now designs for the Italian label, continuing to produce looks that capture the essence of our favorite quirky sitcom teen and would easily fit into her 2018 age-appropriate wardrobe.
This year’s Resort collection diverted from Missoni’s traditional insular inspirations by drawing influence from Jackie Nickerson’s “Farmer,” a photography book highlighting African farmers from Zimbabwe, Malawi, and Mozambique. The farmers turn materials often not meant for dress into simple, yet impactful silhouettes for a life farming in the deserts of the African continent.
These exaggerated silhouettes pair well with Missoni’s classic zig-zag and striped patterns. The soft colors give a more relaxed and dressed-down feeling to the looks. Plissé dresses (plucked from Blossom’s Mother’s closet?) dotted the collection, bringing 90’s movement and necklines to the look book.
Younger people may scoff at Missoni’s oversized looks and wild knits, but time is a fickle friend and one day we may all find ourselves thanking Missoni for giving us the option.
